        Welcome

        Welcome to the regional page for the Joshua Tree region of the California Association for the Gifted (CAG). The Joshua Tree region includes the San Bernardino, Riverside, and Inyo counties.

        Educator Representative

        Dr. Julia Nyberg serves as the Executive Director and Publications/Technology Chair for the California Association for the Gifted. Dr. Nyberg is a leading K-12, gifted, and curriculum development expert with professional experience in the United States and in China. Julia has taught, delivered demonstration lessons, and provided professional development for grades K-12 at various school districts in the United States. Julia serves as a faculty member in the School of Education in the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Purdue. A graduate of the University of Southern California (USC), Julia holds a doctorate with an emphasis in Teacher Education. Julia’s research and practice focus on differentiated curriculum and instruction for diverse gifted and talented students.

        Parent Representative

        Lynda Vo is the parent of two gifted children who were both identified in the second grade. She received her BS in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Gifted Education and received her MEd in Educational Leadership. She is currently teaching 7/8 grade math at a GATE magnet school in Ontario, CA. She has also worked with several districts in Arizona to develop GATE programs in their schools. Mrs. Vo also has also coached several Destination Imagination teams to the Global Finals!

        Membership

        Membership in CAG supports advocacy efforts for gifted students in the state legislature, continued educator training opportunities, direct access to the Gifted Educator Communicator, and discounted conference fees.

        CAG Regional Meetings

        CAG Regional Meetings provide opportunities for administrators, educators, parents, and policymakers to gather to discuss gifted education in response to the diverse social, emotional, and intellectual needs in their region of California.

        UCR GATE Certificate Program

        The UCR Extension GATE certificate is a 15.0 quarter unit program that is entirely online. Take it to the next level by applying up to nine quarter units from the program toward a Master of Education with an emphasis in Equity and Diversity through the Graduate School of Education at UCR. Visit to learn more about this program and to view the latest course catalog.
